Meaning
“Aftertaste is bad” or “leaves a bad aftertaste”
This Japanese expression has both literal and figurative meanings:
Literal meaning: It describes an unpleasant taste that lingers in your mouth after eating or drinking something.
Figurative meaning (more common): It describes an uncomfortable, unpleasant, or guilty feeling that remains after an experience, conversation, or event has ended. It’s similar to saying something “doesn’t sit right with you” or “leaves you with an uneasy feeling.”
For example:
